YOUR NEW REED CUSTOM ROLLER CAMSHAFT IS GROUND ON THE REVOLUTIONARY NEW EVERWEAR-GEAR™ CAMSHAFT CORE

In response to the high performance industry’s issues with durability and compatibility between camshaft steel core gears and stock distributor gears, the Everwear-Gear™ Camshaft core has been developed.  Some of the variables which have contributed to these compatibility difficulties have been:

1. H.P. high volume & pressure oil pumps,
2. Quality of both the distributor and cam gears, along with difficulties posed by combined usage of new and old gears,
3. Variances in engine oil weights and wear additives and
4. Distributor and cam gear not having .0002”-.006” backlash.

The EVERWEAR-GEAR™ addresses these concerns, along with the quality of the gears cut & shape plus gives an allowance for a rear cam gear drive.  This innovative cam gear is manufactured from a newly developed cast iron material with excellent wear characteristics and is casehardened using a special nitride process.  The new gear- hobbing process holds shape and diameter tolerances precisely to center, establishing a true and consistent relationship between the gear's OD to the root / pitch diameter. Far superior to hobbing the 1 piece integrated core before heat treating. Heat treating afterwards creates gear run out.

The EVERWEAR-GEAR™ is truly a technologically advanced and precision piece; it is rated 9 on AGMA’s scale, the present industry standard in the 3-4 range.  A 30-hour engine test (50W racing oil and acceleration from 0 to 8000, holding at 8000RPM’s), using MSD’s #8531 cast iron distributor gear and the new EVERWEAR-GEAR™ camshaft, exhibited minimal wear … thus proving the quality, durability and performance of this innovative and technically advanced product.  By the way, standard gears tested ‘lived’ no longer than 72 seconds in these test.
